SISU is an immersive choreographic and musical piece. A test of the body,
breath and will. Inspired by the Finnish word sisu — raw courage, tenacity, resistance
interior — it questions our relationship to the body, to water, to effort.
We listened to those for whom water is a source of life. Stories from sailors,
ancient to today's navigation, fishing, swimming, rescue, freediving: each practice has its
way of inhabiting endurance.
Water is tension. It absorbs, opposes, compresses. Bodies here oscillate between fragility and
strength, asphyxiation and momentum, always advancing on a ridge line: that of breath.
The music acts like a physical force. Saturated, tense, shot through with deep bass and
of electro-organic textures, it creates a sound space that tightens, holds, engulfs. A
absolute serenity then comes to be juxtaposed with pressure, with isolation.
SISU is not a story, but an experience. A journey that is both physical and sensory.
The audience doesn't watch: it dives with us, immersed in this intimate and visceral exploration.
